Alaskan Bush People’s Ami Brown Medically Evacuated After Being Rushed to ER for ‘Breathing Issues’

Alaskan Bush People’s Ami Brown was medically evacuated after being rushed to the emergency room for “breathing issues,” her daughter Snowbird Brown revealed in a rare update to fans.

“I wanted to let you guys know that mom is actually in the hospital. She went to the emergency room late last night and late, late after that, she did some tests, they actually medevaced her to the next big, big hospital,” Bird, 30, said in an Instagram video posted on Wednesday, February 12. Medevaced, or medical evacuation, is advanced care and transport from scenes of injury or hospital to hospital via ground or air ambulance, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Bird stated that before her mother, 61, was admitted to the hospital, she was experiencing “trouble breathing.” After conducting tests, doctors diagnosed Ami with pneumonia. The Alaskan Bush People star said Ami was currently “OK” and medical professionals planned to put her under anesthesia for two days so her “body could rest.”

“There’s been a lot of sicknesses in our area and it just seems to hit mom really, really hard. Basically, her lungs are really bad,” she explained in a follow-up clip. “They have put her in anesthesia and they’re gonna try to keep her in that for about two days, so her body can just work as little as possible.”

Fans immediately flooded the comment section with their heartfelt well wishes for the beloved Alaskan Bush People star.

“Thanks for letting us know about your mom. Her doctors sound top notch. Prayers for her strength and healing,” one user wrote. Meanwhile, another fan added, “Ugh I’m so sorry, I can feel your sadness. Prayers for your mom and family.”

Ami was diagnosed in 2017 with lung cancer and given a three percent chance of survival. However, by January 2018, she confirmed that her illness was in remission.

Ami was previously rushed to the hospital with breathing issues in March 2024. “She has a severe case of pneumonia. She ended up going to the nearest fairly large town and she’s on antibiotics now and they’re taking care of her,” Bird reported at the time.

Bird had a medical scare of her own in 2022 when doctors discovered two large tumors on her ovaries. While the tumors were not cancerous, Bird was informed that there was a more than 50 percent chance of cancer or the tumors returning. By October 2023, Bird updated fans about her condition and said that things looked “good” after the latest set of tests she’d had done.

The series of health scares in the Brown family came shortly after the family’s patriarch, Billy Brown, died at age 68 in 2021.

“Our beloved patriarch Billy Brown passed away last night after suffering from a seizure,” His son Bear Brown confirmed in an Instagram statement at the time. “He was our best friend — a wonderful and loving dad, granddad and husband and he will be dearly missed. He lived his life on his terms, off the grid and off the land and taught us to live like that as well. We plan to honor his legacy going forward, and to continue with his dream. We ask for privacy and prayers during this painful time! God bless everyone!!!”
