Just three days following the accident, Josh revealed that Jett had undergone surgery on his left leg. The muscle, tissue, veins, and nerves in his leg were all healing and progressively getting stronger. Jett was not under sedation anymore and was waking up with a lot of questions. At the time, Jett’s mother said that her son was being “feisty and sweet” and he was going to rest so he could get another operation on both his legs.

Diego added that Jett is outgoing and always has a smile on his face. So far, they’ve raised $34, 358 out of $50,000.

In March 2024, 12News interviewed Jett, who by then, had undergone seven surgeries. The 17-year-old Jett and his 16-year-old friend Jaxson Elliot were on their way home from snowboarding in Flagstaff when their car hit a guardrail on I-17 near Cordes Junction. The guardrail speared into the car and Elliot died instantly. Jett was lying back and all he could remember now was this “big impact.” His body was stuck under the whole guardrail, and he couldn’t get up. Jett recalled that if he had been sitting up, he would have been dead from the guardrail’s impact.

Candice told the publication about how doctors said Jett only had a “5% chance of survival.” The odds of him losing both his legs were likely. The doctors were preparing Candice for the worst. Jett’s recovery process involved lots of physical therapy and occupational therapy. Candice added that Jett’s medical team used the word “miracle” to describe his recovery process several times because of the way Jett was recovering at rapid rates.
